Technical Education is the backbone of development of any country. As such, Technical training institutions in Uganda create an avenue for skills development and contribute greatly to the socio-economic development of the country. In order to increase access to technical education, an upgraders’ scheme has been created for Advanced Craft or Equivalent Certificate holders who wish to upgrade their qualifications under Government and Private sponsorship. It is against this background that the Uganda Technical College (Bushenyi, Elgon, Kichwamba, Kyema and Lira), calls for applications from holders of Advanced Craft Certificates or National Certificates or Equivalent Certificate who wish to upgrade to National Diplomas (formerly known as Ordinary Diplomas) in Civil Engineering (NDCE), Mechanical Engineering (NDME), Electrical Engineering (NDEE), Water Engineering (NDWE), Architecture (NDA), Ceramics Engineering (NDCRE) and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (NDRAC).
The general requirements for admission are an Advanced Craft Certificate or National Certificate plus TWO YEARS of PROVEN working experience in the relevant field. In addition, candidates who joined the certificate programmes after the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or Equivalent should have at least three passes of which two must be in Physics and Mathematics. Specific requirements per programme are as follows:
NDCE, NDWE & NDA Block laying and Concreting Practice, Plumbing, Carpentry and Joinery, Building Construction
NDME & NDRAC Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice/ Fitter machinist, Motor Vehicle Technicians Course/Automobile
Mechanics, Agricultural Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Welding and Metal Fabrication
NDCR Pottery and Ceramics, Ceramics Technology
NDEE Electrical Installation/Electrical Systems and Maintenance; Radio, Television and Electronics Technician
Note: Those with F9 in Physics or Mathematics or Chemistry obtained at the UCE or equivalent level will not be admitted to the National Diploma programme whether under Government or Private Sponsorship.
- Applicants should obtain application forms from the College Campus of their choice after paying an application fee Shs 53,000.
- Filled forms should be returned to the respective College Campus not later than Friday 12th November 2021. Interviews for eligible candidates will be conducted on Monday 15thto Thursday 18thNovember 2021 at the respective College Campuses. Applicants should carry with them Original Certificates, identity cards from the previous institution, their current identity cards and their National Identity Cards. Only candidates who have attended interviews and meet the stated requirements will be considered for admission under both Government and Private sponsorship.
In addition, applications are invited from qualifying A’ Level leavers for admission on private sponsorship for the academic year 2021/2022.
The minimum requirements for admission are a Principal Pass in either Mathematics or Physics and two Subsidiary passes in Science subjects obtained at the same sitting with no grade F in any Principal subject.
Please note that those with Entrepreneurship as the third Principal subject are NOT eligible for admission in the Uganda Technical College. Interested applicants should obtain application forms from the College Campus/website of the campus of their choice after paying an application fee of Shs 53,000to the respective Campus Account. The deadline for submission of filled application forms is Friday, 17th December 2021.
Holders of degrees and/or diplomas in physical sciences are eligible to apply for any diplomat the Uganda Technical College.
In order to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmissions, applicants are encouraged to use web-based (website) delivery for their application forms.
All Successful applicants are expected to report for the First Semester of the Academic Year 2021/2022 in January 2022.
